Story
Hi there! I've decided to make a difference and fundraise for this campaign to raise much needed funds for an amazing cause that's close to my heart. My dad was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme grade 4 in August 2023 and it is something that I never thought would affect my family. I looked into recent research in brain tumours and realised there has been minimal research advancements in the last two decades. My decision to shave my head is to raise much needed funds to help further research advancement for brain cancer! My goal is to raise $10,000 and I will be shaving my hair on Saturday the 2nd of March 2024. If you would like to support my fundraising efforts it would be amazing! Any donation, big or small, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
A little bit about my Dad's journey so far:
Dad grew up on the land and has always enjoyed the agricultural connection. He worked with Dalgety’s before going into cotton farming. This was a catalyst for him to then go to UNE to study Agricultural Economics, during which time my older brother, Sam was born. Dad worked extremely hard our whole childhood and we are so proud of everything he has achieved! He returned to university to undertake a PhD which was focused on cattle and sheep export and animal welfare. Dad began having symptoms in June 2023 with difficulty finding words which if you have met Brendan, you will know he does not have trouble with ever!! This led to an MRI scan which found a tumour in his left parietal lobe. Dad was lucky enough to be referred to a highly skilled Neurosurgeon, Dr Jacob Fairhall who did a fantastic job at resecting 95% of the tumour at the end of August at Prince of Wales Private Hospital. Dad has undergone 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy at Tamworth base hospital, and is now completing more chemotherapy at home. Dad has the best attitude and outlook on life, and we know he will fight this with everything he has!!
Every dollar we raise for this amazing cause, will go towards further research which brain cancer desperately needs. We are hoping to further advancements for brain cancer research and help future patients with their journey.
