Story
Five months and 29 days ago, Carl (Dad) was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Doctors gave him a life expectancy of 6 weeks to 6 months, but as strong and determined as he was, he passed away just one day before reaching the 6-month mark. He fought hard; some days were harder than others, but he always showed up for his family, cracking his classic dad jokes and sharing his signature wink.
When Carl was diagnosed, we dove into research to better understand Glioblastoma—its causes, possible treatments, and how to find a community of others who might know more about this devastating illness. Unfortunately, there is little awareness and support for this rare cancer.
Carl's Golf Day is dedicated to raising awareness and funds to help families and patients facing Glioblastoma. The event will support efforts to connect these individuals with their communities and assist with the financial burdens of treatment, housing adjustments, and other needs.
Carl’s legacy will continue to live on through these efforts

The Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) is a charity formed in Newcastle by Mark and Kirralee Hughes following Mark’s diagnosis with Brain Cancer in 2013. The Mark Hughes Foundation’s mission is to raise much needed funds for research, to create awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families.
